Her husband Alon and toddler made it back to the kibbutz after hiding in the woods for 12 hours, her brother Gili Roman said on Friday. Roman-Gat, a 35-year-old dual Israeli-German national, had left Kibbutz Be'eri a month ago, fearful of the region's insecurity and had only returned there for a Sabbath visit the day before the raid, Roman said. On Friday, Roman surveyed the wreckage of the family home in Kibbutz Be'eri, an agricultural kibbutz 3 miles (5 km) from Gaza, which was one of the first towns hit in Hamas' attack. The Israeli military said it killed dozens of Hamas gunmen in the Be'eri area. "We are talking about our family, three women captured, in captivity, held hostage by the terrorist regime in Gaza," Roman said, adding relatives and friends had been searching for them since the attack.

A report last year by the non-profit Climate Policy Initiative found Africa has received only 12% of the finance it needs to cope with climate impacts. The thousands of delegates are expected to debate solutions ahead of a U.N. climate summit next month in New York in September and the COP28 U.N. summit in the United Arab Emirates from the end of November. The summit's organisers also say they expect deals worth hundreds of millions of dollars to be concluded in Nairobi. In June, it hosted an auction where companies from Saudi Arabia bought more than 2.2 million tonnes of carbon credits. One project generating carbon credits in Kenya is BURN Manufacturing's production of clean cooking stoves to replace heavily polluting wood and charcoal-based fires.

AMSTERDAM, Oct 19 (Reuters) - The Dutch government will invest up to 3.5 billion euros ($3.44 billion) in military procurement, the defence ministry said, in a policy turnaround in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. After years of declining spending, the Dutch military will purchase between 2023 and 2026 a rocket artillery system and 10 howitzer cannons for up to 1 billion euros. The new mobile air defence system is intended to improve defence against threats from enemy helicopters, aircraft, drones and cruise missiles, Van der Maat said. Poland is set to buy rocket artillery systems from South Korea. In fulfillment of that, Dutch spending will be 2.03% in 2024 and 2.01% in 2025.
